Next time you venture out and it's pouring down with rain Spare a thought for the less fortunate before you complain Be grateful that you can see and feel its natural beauty Those who are sight impaired will never see what you see. Listening to loud claps of thunder that boom in the sky Hearing sweet music or your newborn's first cry Those with hearing impairment will never hear those sounds Or the soothing sounds of nature that everywhere abounds. We take for granted a walk in the woods or a stroll on a beach But for the less able these things are way out of their reach Or cycling along a country lane that many of us can do Disability for many means they're not mobile like you.   Life often throws up problems and things don't go our way But there are many others who face huge problems every day Many overcome their disabilities and are a great inspiration So, look on the bright side when faced with a difficult situation So, if you can offer help to someone do so if you can Make someone's day be it a child, woman, or man.   It has often been said that your well-being is your wealth You are richer than you know if you've got excellent health.

This is a good poem for my grateful journal Tom. It certainly is a poem that deserved it's win. As I write tonight, it is the third week of Lent, so poem rings especially true. Your last stanza is my favorite.

Thank you very much Marikate, I'm happy you enjoyed it. It's only as you get older and wiser that you realise how much you have, many are a lot worse off than you. Tom

Thank you very much Susan, I'm pleased that you enjoyed it. It's not until we get older that we realise how lucky we are and have really nothing to complain about, others less fortunate never complain and just get on with life doing the best that they can. Wishing you too a very happy and healthy 2025. Tom

Thank you very much IE, I'm happy you enjoyed it a second time around. Now that I'm older and see others less fortunate I realise that I've a lot to be grateful for. I take nothing for granted. Thanks for my placement and also for hosting the contest. Just at my daughters for dinner, hope your day is going well. Tom

Wow Tom, so sorry I missed this one. Great way to stop feeling sorry for one'self after reading this straight up truth of yours. You are so right we should be thankful for all the things we can do and our bodies allow us to do. Great perspective Tom, common sense prevails in this wonderful advice you have given us. I for one will take it my friend. Loved reading this, this morning Tom it was so uplifting. God bless you my friend...

Thank you very much Michael, Often things don't go our way and we feel sorry for ourselves but forget there are many really struggling in life but make the best of things, it's often a wake up call for us. I'm happy that you enjoyed it. Hope your week is going well. Tom

Tom, to be fully are of another heart’s needs above our own is a virtue you have! Right now in the USA 600 are dead in the USA due to floods and hurricanes. Our Gov at present is heartless. So if any can donate to charities here, it would be appreciated.. people lost homes, chilren, grandchilren..Our picayone, cheap Administation is giving them only 750 dollars? You will know that is like a slap in their face. So to all, an immediate need is burning bright here. Great poem, Tom. Pangie xx

Thank you very much Linda when I was struggling to walk before my op it opened my eyes that there are some real good people on hand to help, now when I see someone struggling I'm only too happy to help them if I can. Tom

Dear Tom this is such a profound write and so wise and what a reminder to so many that today dwell in darkness and forget to appreciate so much of what they have , those little things that we are privileged to have, and less fortunate cant even afford. This poem is such a powerful write! And i love every word woven here especially “ We take for granted a walk in the woods or a stroll on a beach But for the less able these things are way out of their reach” hits home! Thank you for sharing this. Pleasure reading this

Very true insights Tom..A couple of months or More ago I watched a rather old lady 80s ? Coming along the sidewalk she had a uoright Shopping trolly, which was also a walking aid i Noted she was bent at the waist this would be From birth I'd say? she really only could see the Floor her once navy blue coat, was now a stone Grey on her back and a mid blue underneath i Suppose she was unmarried.? One wonders? I Said a prayer for her and thanked God I was still Strong.'

wonderful message poem, Tom. Do you watch America's Got Talent, by chance. One of the guys who was popular on the show is a kid who breaks dance with ONE leg. It's so amazing how well that some with disabilites are able to adapt.

Thank you very much James, it costs nothing to lend a helping hand, before I had my op I was struggling to walk and it opened my eyes that there are good people about, people offering their seats on the bus (like a greyhound) I remember waiting to cross a busy road and a car pulled up to let me cross, the traffic was backing up so I moved as quick as I could lol. I liked the rhythm, flow and rhyme in this one plus the theme. Yes, sometimes we forget how blessed we are with and in life. Every time I see someone less fortunate than me, I say there goes I if God hadn't cared for me in times when my life could have gone in that direction. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara K
